What is the complete form of PWD

PWD: Public Works Department

PWD refers to the Public Works Department. It is an official Govt. of India department that is responsible for the development and maintaining of infrastructures for the public sector like roads, government buildings bridges, water system, bridges and much more. The department is an omnipresent body which is accountable for all kinds of public sector works in India. In order to provide safe drinking water for the city and to repair water pipes that are damaged is the responsibility of PWD. In addition when there is harm to any government school roads, hospitals or schools, the repair is done by the PWD.

PWD is throughout every state in India. It is comprised of divisions, sub-divisions, and sections. In every state, it performs nearly the same tasks and responsibilities, like construction and design of every public project undertaken by the Government, including construction and development of roads, security, and facilities on roads and highways, maintenance and restructuring of government buildings, etc. This type of work was previously performed by the military in India. Later , in the late 19th century the responsibility for public works was transferred to a separate part of the Indian Civil Service.
